Stamp collecting and numismatic > Vatican stamps

The Jubilee Year is an extremely important event in the religious life of a Christian. The first Holy Year dates back to XIV century. Pope Boniface VIII established that this event had to be celebrated every 100 years. In the second half of 1400 Pope Paul II reduced the period to 25 years. We propose this set containing four stamps and a coin created purposely by the City of Vatican for the Jubilee 2000. In the picture we can distinguish them going from left to right. The first stamp shoes a detail of a sepulcher in the Vatican Grottos. Cristus Victor among the Most Holy Peter and Paul, the value is 10 liras. The second represents the Effigy of Christ situated in the niche of Pallii in the Vatican Grottos, the value is 25 liras. The third stamp portrays the face of Christ, a mosaic of the apse of the main Basilica St. John Lateran, the value is 30 liras. The fourth pictures a cross with a dove above it between the deer who are drinking. It reproduces the mosaic of the apse of the main Basilica St. John Lateran, the value is 40 liras. This series was issued 18th December 1974 to celebrate the Holy Year 1975.
